Empanadas

For those of you who remember getting these downtown in Martinez back in the day... here's the recipe.

EMPANADAS - This makes about 10 to 12,depending on size
2 pounds of ground beef
1 pound of onions (yellow) I chopped every small, don't like long srings of onion
3 cloves garlic chopped
2 cups tomato sauce
4 cups water
2 tablespoons cumin seed
2 tablespoons chili power
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 tablespoons pepper
Saute beef, onions, and garlic. Add the rest. cook 30 minutes
Buy Bridgeford bread (I won't even try to make my own) Defrost and roll out about 1/4 inch. Use salad dish or bigger or smaller, depending on what size Emp you want, as a pattern. Put meat mixture on bread roll over and pinch close. Make sure it stays closed. Put in deep fryer until bread is cooked. Another way is put in cast iron pan and fry in oil. I tried both ways, deep fried looks like the typical Emp, pan fried looks a little different, but the taste is the same. ENJOY!!
